Cater.com: What are your top tips when it comes to getting the most out of a cake tasting appointment?
Lanae: Come Prepared! Look at lots of pictures, and know what you do and do not like. Be prepared with design ideas, questions, and details that are important like number of guests you’d like to serve. Coming prepared will make the appointment go smoothly and give you the most beneficial information. Also be prepared to make decisions. Schedules book up quickly, and therefore, deposits are an important part of the cake consultation.
Cater.com: What suggestions would you give to a client who wanted to give out an edible party favor that would “wow” their guests?
Lanae: There are so many fun party favors you can do! I would suggest something fun like chocolate dipped Oreos, cake pops, sugar cookies, or even mini pies! They are all customizable to match your event, and something different and sure to wow any guest! One of my favorite edible party favors is our cupcake in a jar. A small mason jar filled with layers of cake, filling, and frosting, all tied up with a little wooden spoon! They are cute, tasty, and definitely have a wow factor.
Cater.com: What are some of the advantages of having a dessert or cupcake bar at event?
Lanae: First, they are fun and offer lots of choices! Second, it offers something unique and appeals to everyone. There are hundreds of different treat options with a dessert bar. Something I always hear when we do dessert or cupcake bars is, “How fun is this?!” or “I love this idea!” So it’s not only a great way to get all the desserts and options you want, but it is something your guests are going to remember!
Cater.com: What are some trends in desserts and cake decorating that you’re excited about or looking forward to trying out in the coming season?
Lanae: We are excited to do a lot more dessert buffets with new (and even some nostalgic) treats! Mini desserts are definitely in this year, and we are looking forward to that! We are also looking forward to some of the fun trends in cakes this year, including naked cakes, metallics, and lots and lots of buttercream! We do a lot of cupcake towers and cupcake buffets, and see ourselves doing many more of those this year!
Cater.com: You’re always changing and expanding the offerings on your menu. What are some recent flavors or options that you’ve recently added or will be adding soon?
Lanae: One of the biggest benefits of being a custom dessert shop is having creative freedom when it comes to new offerings or something unique for a specific client. We are constantly adding new things to our menu. One of our most recent hits is our Brownie Trifle. We started with just a Raspberry Brownie Trifle and now have over 5 flavors of our Brownie Trifle that are doing extremely well and everyone loves them! We are looking forward to what new products come out of our kitchen in the future too!
